Week 1 - Foundations of Artistic Growth
(Essential for First Time Attendees)
Week 1 focuses on developing a strong understanding of the essential building blocks of great art, but is more than just a fundamentals class. You will:
- Learn how to master Value, Color, and Design Principles in your paintings
- Learn John's 4 step system to create more intentional and impactful paintings
- Develop skills to create paintings that feel cohesive and dynamic.
- Learn how to train your eye to recognize relationships in nature, including shape, color, and depth.
This week equips you with practical tools and techniques that propel you toward noticeable progress in your art, setting you on the path to more confident and inspirational creations.
Week 2 - Working En Plein Air
Week 2 takes your skills to the next level by applying the fundamentals of Value, Color, and Design to the ever-changing challenges of outdoor painting. This week offers a hands-on, immersive experience that will change the way you approach plein air landscapes.

Week 3 - From Field to Gallery
Week 3 will focus on learning how to develop studio quality pieces from start to finish, with an opportunity to work in a larger format. This week, John will demonstrate and guide you on how to:
- Develop studio pieces
- Work in larger formats for gallery-quality paintings
- Show you how to refine and rework for professional results
As is often the case, larger paintings done in the studio are not simply larger versions of their outdoor sketches. Along with size increases, specific considerations of paint application, edges, and shape must be understood more fully. These nuances will be discussed and demonstrated to give increased understanding in this area.

A deposit of 50% is required to reserve your seat in the workshop. If your schedule changes and you cannot attend the workshop for any reason, your payment can be applied to a future class with John Poon, either in person or virtually.
No refunds will be issued.
50% of the workshop fees are due upon registration, with the balance due April 20, 2025.
